The Domain names are now ubiquitous in the operation of the Internet in the world in general and in the Côte d’Ivoire in particular. It has become almost impossible for a country, an institution, a structure or business wanting to exist on the Internet web not to register domain names associated with its name or its brand.

A well-chosen domain name is a strong element of communication on the Internet. That is the case of the ".ci" which represents the identity of Côte d’Ivoire on the net.

Since 1992, the management of domain ".ci" on first level of Côte d’Ivoire was the responsibility of the Institut National Polytechnique Houphouet Boigny (INP-HB). However in March 2012, the Ivorian Government adopted the Ordinance No. 2012-293 dated March 21, 2012 on Telecommunications and the Information and Communication Technologies, which in its Article 72 grants to the Telecommunications / ICT Regulatory Body of Côte d’Ivoire (ARTCI) the mission of manager of domain ".ci".

The effective grip of activities and tools in this matter by ARTCI, came after the hanging over between the former (INP-HB) and the new manager (ARTCI) on February 24, 2014. Since that date ARTCI has acted as the Registration Office (Registry) for domain names ".ci".
Thus, any person or entity wishing to create a domain name in ".ci" should contact a Registrar  which carries on its behalf, the formalities to ARTCI for the creation actual of the domain name.
